International movie star Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace who’s portrayal of himself as a struggling Jamaican drummer in the Cult movie Rockers (1978) has made him a cornerstone in the movement of Reggae music and the culture of Rastafari. With family roots in the African traditions of Pukumina and Jonkunu, and early musical direction at the famed Alpha Boys School in Kingston, he was destined to become a musical phenomenon. He taught himself to play drum-set and in doing so created his own unique style of playing. Horsemouth’s drum techniques laid the foundation for Reggae’s defining one-drop rhythm, and his work at Studio One with Coxsonne Dodd established genres such as Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, and Roots Rock Reggae. Horsemouth’s collaborations with Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Justin Hinds, IJahman, Pablo Moses, Abyssinians, Bunny Wailer and the Mighty Diamonds are legendary.
